The owners, Tom Stewmon along with his parents Bill & Sara, have roots in the restaurant business going back over 50 years. Bill's mother Lib (short for Liberty Bell) opened her first operation in 1939 in an old street car appropriately named the Street Car Cafe serving but two items, Hamburgers & Chili.
After the war, with money saved from her husband's army checks, the Street Car Cafe was expanded by adding a railroad dining car to each end to form a U-shape. Later Lib opened several cafes and restaurants, the last being a collaboration with Sara's brother, a New York trained chef. It was under his guidance that Tom received his first cooking training at age 10.
After operating this store for several years Lib retired and sold the business, but Sara continued to work off and on in the service area of the business. After finishing high school, Tom studied management and accounting in college then worked in numerous food and beverage operations gaining knowledge in preparation for his dream of one day running his own store. That opportunity came when he moved back home and formed a partnership with his parents and they bought the very restaurant that he had first trained in as a 10-year old boy. They operated that store for 5 years then moved to their current location where they have enjoyed over 10 years of success due much in part to the principles learned from the founder, Liberty Bell Stewmon.
